If you are in an 100 mile radius of London, and Olympic fever is filling you with dread at over crowded tubes and congestion, can we suggest a little tonic. Drive north for just over two hours and you will reach one of the lovliest, most romantic parts of the country, full of charm and peace, North Norfolk will greet you with open arms. She hosts the most glorious stretch of beach, Holkham bay -where you can walk for hours with the pine woods on one side, and the wide open sea on the other side.
We visited last October and walked and talked for hours, bumping into only a few friendly dogs and their owners en route, out walk punctuated by coloured beach huts. When we were hungry and sleepy from the sea air we enjoyed the food, wine and fine hospitality of The Victoria - just a short walk, from the golden sands of the beach in the gates of Holkham hall.
